Has a fuwuyuan ever refused to serve you something because of TCM?

I was eating hotpot with friends last night and among the things we ordered was tofu. Shortly afterward we tried ordering spinach and the fuwuyuan just wouldn't do it. Kept repeating how the two didn't mix, how it was dangerous to mix the two. I assume she meant according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Anyways, she just wouldn't. Absolutely refused. Complete B.S.

While that indicates that she might have been a bit poorly educated, 蔡文聪, it also implies that she cared about the welfare of her customers

Agree with chenhan. If they had admitted they didn't have spinach they would be risking losing face. They just have that mindset. In Chinese - Western restaurants they have no shame in admitting they don't have half the shit on the menu because it's not their food. At a Chinese restaurant it would be a major loss of face.

It's because spinach contains oxalic acid which combines with the calcium in tofu to form calcium oxalate, which prevents the human body from absorbing calcium and possibly causing kidney stone
